III. Model digital age work and learning.

Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital
society. experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
  • Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations

  • Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success

  • Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats

  • Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning

Reflection:   The first project I selected for this standard is the HTML assignment from IT 644. I selected this primarily to demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the ability to transfer current knowledge to new situations.  Learning HTML trains one to understand the logic behind the website.  This logic is intrinsic in digital technology.  Thus, learning code gives a foundation for understanding new technologies.

I chose the website I created, 6th Grade Reading, from IT 645 as an artifact because it provides not only communication to parents and students, but also includes a page on resources to support student success.  I will use this site to communicate relevant information for my class.

Living History is a sixth grade tradition at my school.  The flyer I created will be used to promote the event.  This is an excellent way to connect and communicate with the community.  This event is promoted by local T.V and radio.  This flyer will provide an image for the television station to display.  It also has all necessary information for the radio station to announce.

Finally, I included a research paper that I wrote as an assignment for IT 720 regarding learning theories and multimedia.  I selected this to demonstrate my ability to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

Artifacts:  Standard three incorporates the importance of using technology to communicate using various tools.  It also points to the importance of being knowledgable enough to adapt quickly with new technology and use the best resources to support research and learning.

My education from USM in this field has supported me in gaining knowledge to be at the level to understand and adapt new technology in instructional situations.  The importance of using digital tools to locate, analyze, and use to support learning was merged into every class.

Future Learning Goals

I look forward to continuing to work with both parents and students.  I plan to use the skills and concepts I have learned during my M.S.I.T. instruction to communicate effectively with students, parents, and the community.  I believe that the foundational skills that I have gained through HTML  and video/audio digitization will help me integrate new technologies in my classroom to support student learning.
