I. Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.

Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate

experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

  • Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources

  • Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments

  • Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes

  • Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness

Reflection:  Three of my artifacts for this standard were completed in IT 567.  First, I created a brochure advertising USM's Instructional Technology program.  Instead of a traditional three fold brochure I was allowed the creative freedom to design it as a bifold.  This was a lucidpress assignment posted to my  Wordpress blogfolio.  The second project was a canva assignment also posted to my blogfolio.  This assignment helped me in a real life situation.   My daughter plays for the local high school softball team and the team used this image to promote this season's games.  The final IT 567 project is the creation of "The Bulldog Beat", an electronic newsletter for my students to work on.  This project helped me build the structure of the newsletter, which provides an avenue to easily insert student writing.  Students who choose to be on the Bulldog Beat team select a page and work with other classmates, limit six students per page, to collaborate and continue this project for our school.  I have included a link to the Wordpress site where students from different cultures in this class commented on my designs and helped me further develop my skills.

The last project I included was the story assignment from IT 645.  I included this assignment because It was a creative collaborative assignment that I will use for teaching sixth grade reading.  The assignment was to write a story and then have classmates work to add images in order to aide in comprehension.  This is excellent collaboration that encompasses diverse learning styles of students.

Artifacts:  This standard's focus is about collaborative work environments, relating  learning objectives to real-world environments through the use of technology, and providing a safe atmosphere for students to be creative. My classes provided not only collaborative learning environments, but included real-world problems that needed to be solved.  Another important aspect is promoting and  providing the  support necessary  to establish a culture of innovative and creative thinking which the professors as USM exemplify.  Lastly, new technology is making it's way to the web and into homes and classrooms daily.  Several classes helped develop strategies to evaluate and use new technology in the classroom to engage students.

Future Learning Goals

I look forward to creating engaging opportunities for my students to solve real world scenarios.  I believe that  providing an environment that promotes and supports creative and innovative thinking is essential for educating 21st century students.  I look forward to working with students as a facilitator as they plan, collaborate,  and problem solve within the standards of my subject.
